Welcome back, Tigers!

My name is Jennifer Bernal and this will be my sixth year teaching at Edwardsville High School. I am just as excited to be here as you are! After graduating from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with a Bachelor of Science in English, a speech minor, and a middle school endorsement, I took a job at Freeburg Community High School as a media specialist. Shortly after, I accepted a teaching position at Edwardsville High School. In addition to being one of the high school's ACT/SAT prep instructors, I was also the proud sponsor of the Class of 2017. Go Tigers! I thoroughly enjoy reading, traveling, spending time with my dog, Louie, and watching my Chicago Cubs play ball.

As an educator, I feel a classroom that reflects a positive atmosphere is a major stepping stone for productive learning. This convivial environment is a place where students feel safe, are able to share their thoughts freely without criticism, conduct productive conversations, and have access to useful resources. Developing this type of setting is the responsibility of the teacher and the student. It is a place where opinions, ideas, creative thought, and hard work come together in the learning process.

I am looking forward to getting to know all my students, and I know we will have another successful year at EHS. Welcome back, Tigers!
